how big is a name necklace?

About 15 to 44 mm wide and mostly 11 to 15 mm tall, depending on the name. The letters stay the same size (4.2 mm for a lowercase letter), so a longer name makes a wider pendant, up to 44 mm. A short name like Ava is about as wide as a quarter.

Height runs from the top of the tallest letter to the bottom of the lowest, so a capital with a big loop or a letter that hangs below the line (g, y, j) adds to it. From about 9 letters on, most names reach the 44 mm limit and are scaled down a little to fit, so their letters come out slightly smaller.

why this size

which chain

The pendant has two jump rings fused on, one at each end, with a 1.9 mm hole. They take any chain up to 1.5 mm thick, so you can use one you already own. The chain isn't part of the file: you add your own.

A quick check at home: cut a strip of paper as wide as the name (see the table) and hold it where the chain would sit.
