six letterings, side by side
Any name can be drawn up in six script styles. Every one is sized to the same 4.2 mm lowercase height, so mostly you choose by look. Two things still differ, and we measured both on all 414 names on this site: how many names a lettering has to shrink to fit the pendant, and how much it changes when it's cast in metal.

which one to pick
- The look most people picture: classic script. Connected letters, big loops on the capitals.
- A long name: retro. It's compact, so it kept every name here at full size, even Christopher. Formal script is the widest: it had to shrink 141 of 414 names.
- Metal that looks like the screen: rounded. Its strokes are already bold, so casting adds only 27% metal. Signature changes most (+171%).
- Easy to read across a room: rounded or handwritten. Signature is the most personal and the least plain to read.
- Just one letter or a word like mama: see initial necklaces and mama and nana necklaces, every letter and word measured in all six.

how big Olivia comes out
The same name, measured on its 3D file in each lettering. The weight is for 14K yellow gold.
| lettering | width | height | 14k gold |
|---|---|---|---|
| classic script | 32 mm | 11 mm | 2.1 g |
| formal script | 36 mm | 9.8 mm | 2.0 g |
| signature | 31 mm | 12 mm | 1.9 g |
| retro | 25 mm | 7.4 mm | 1.4 g |
| rounded | 30 mm | 8.7 mm | 1.5 g |
| handwritten | 35 mm | 11 mm | 2.1 g |
Height runs from the top of the tallest letter to the bottom of the lowest, so capitals and loops add to it.
long names
A pendant is at most 44 mm wide, rings included. A name that would come out wider is shrunk to fit, so its letters end up smaller than 4.2 mm. Here's Christopher in all six, drawn at one scale:
44 mm wide, lowercase 3.5 mm
44 mm wide, lowercase 2.9 mm
44 mm wide, lowercase 3.9 mm
41 mm wide, lowercase 4.2 mm
43 mm wide, lowercase 3.4 mm
44 mm wide, lowercase 2.9 mm
All in 14K yellow gold at the same scale. Your screen won't show true millimetres, but the sizes compare.
How many names of each length get shrunk, out of the 414 names on this site:
| lettering | 6 letters | 7 letters | 8 letters | 9+ letters | smallest lowercase |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| classic script | 7 of 106 | 32 of 85 | 19 of 31 | 15 of 19 | 3.3 mm (Mackenzie) |
| formal script | 25 of 106 | 64 of 85 | 31 of 31 | 19 of 19 | 2.7 mm (Alexandria) |
| signature | 1 of 106 | 12 of 85 | 14 of 31 | 11 of 19 | 3.3 mm (Alexandria) |
| retro | 0 of 106 | 0 of 85 | 0 of 31 | 0 of 19 | 4.2 mm, none shrunk |
| rounded | 0 of 106 | 1 of 85 | 6 of 31 | 12 of 19 | 3.4 mm (Christopher) |
| handwritten | 5 of 106 | 37 of 85 | 30 of 31 | 19 of 19 | 2.9 mm (Christopher) |
Names of 4 letters or fewer always fit. Wide capitals count as well as length: in classic script Mackenzie gets shrunk more than Christopher.sizes for every name
what changes when it's cast
At pendant size, script fonts are mostly hairline. Fine lines don't cast, so every stroke is brought up to at least 0.8 mm. Delicate scripts get the most added and look bolder in metal than on screen.
| lettering | font under 0.8 mm | metal vs the font |
|---|---|---|
| classic script | 79% | +142% |
| formal script | 85% | +158% |
| signature | 96% | +171% |
| retro | 52% | +68% |
| rounded | 4% | +27% |
| handwritten | 34% | +86% |
